The 7.65 French Long was originally developed in the United States under the name of .30 Pedersen for use in the Pedersen Device, which was a conversion for the 1903 Springfield to quickly transform it into a semi-automatic blowing shotgun with a magazine larger capacity to increase firepower if necessary.
With the intention of using the Pedersen device during the First World War, production was stopped at the end of the war before any of the devices saw the battlefield. With the end of the war and the non-use of surplus Pedersen equipment, almost all of them were ordered destroyed.
Years later, the French were looking for a new handgun and the 1935A pistol did the trick. The 1935A and 1935S pistols, as well as the MAS model 38 submachine gun were chambered for the .30 Pedersen, now renamed 7.65 Long. This .30 caliber cartridge is a little more powerful than the .32 ACP and is capable of firing projectiles weighing up to 100 grains.
