The Walther P99 is a semi-automatic pistol made in Germany by Walther Sportwaffen.
The design of the P99 was initiated in 1994 and the pistol was introduced in 1996. The main goal was to develop a new, modern style pistol for police and self-defense that would incorporate all the latest techniques and cost less than its predecessor. - the Walther P88, which did not achieve significant commercial success, mainly due to its high price.
The P99 is distributed in the United States by Walther America, a subsidiary of Smith & Wesson.
The Walther P99 is known in particular for its use in the cinema. In the James Bond series, it replaces the Walther PPK as the hero's weapon from 1997. Called P2K, it therefore appears in Tomorrow never dies, The world is not enough and Die another day with Pierce Brosnan, and in Casino Royale, starring Daniel Craig, while Quantum of Solace, Skyfall and 007 Specter see the return of the Walther PPK.
