Whether you are new to the world of shooting or have been in it for many years, you can sometimes get confused about what the regulations allow or not in the field of weapons.

Between what you can read on forums or hear on Radio stand, you will quickly know where to turn. Worry no more, we have gathered here the essentials to know about a question that often comes up on social networks and elsewhere: The rules concerning the purchase of chargers.

 

Article R312-45 of the Internal Security Code regulates the acquisition of supply systems according to their capacity and the type of weapon on which they are mounted.

 

"For sports shooters, the associations mentioned in 1° of article R. 312-40 and the federations mentioned in article R. 312-39-1, the acquisition of category A power supply systems d A capacity greater than 10 shots and less than or equal to 30 shots usable by semi-automatic repeating weapons with central percussion classified at 2° and 4° of category B is subject to the presentation of the authorization of the weapon or the carcass or, where applicable, the lower part of the receiver held.

The acquisition of category B supply systems is subject to the presentation of the authorization for the weapon or the carcass or, where applicable, the lower part of the receiver held.

The acquisition of category C supply systems usable by semi-automatic repeating weapons classified at 2° and 4° of category B is subject to the presentation of the receipt of declaration of the weapon or the carcass or , if any, from the lower part of the detained receiver.

No one can acquire and hold a power supply system without having the title of possession of the corresponding weapon.

No one may acquire and possess more than ten supply systems per weapon."

 

Concretely :

A category B-4° weapon (semi-automatic repeating shoulder firearm with central percussion, type AR-15 or AK) goes into category A-3° b) as soon as a magazine with a capacity greater than 10 rounds is inserted into the weapon (the magazine being classified in A-9° bis).

Weapon category B-4°

 

A weapon of category B-2° a) (semi-automatic repeating shoulder firearm with central percussion) becomes category A-3° b) as soon as a magazine with a capacity greater than 10 shots is inserted in the weapon (the magazine being classified in A-9° bis).

Weapon of category B-2° a)

 

A weapon of category B-2° a bis) (semi-automatic repeating shoulder firearm with rimfire, an AR15 in .22 LR for example) goes into category A-3° as soon as a loader a capacity greater than 30 rounds is inserted in the weapon (the magazine being classified in A-9°).

Weapon of category B-2° a bis)

 

 

A weapon of category B-2° b) (manual repeating shoulder firearm) changes to category A-3° as soon as a magazine with a capacity greater than 31 ammunition is inserted in the weapon (the charger being classified in A-9° ter) ).

 

 

For each of these weapons, the acquisition and possession of power supply systems classified in category A is possible for sports shooters on the condition of presenting the authorization to acquire and possess the corresponding weapon. The quota is 10 magazines per weapon, at the discretion of the shooter (The magazines are not listed on the authorization to acquire and possess the weapon, a copy of it is therefore sufficient for the purchase) .

As for the use of the weapon with the magazine classified in A, this can only take place in a shooting range approved by the FFtir and only if the regulations of the range allow it.

Feeding systems with a capacity greater than 30 rounds are only accessible to sports shooters practicing TSV. For the acquisition, a certificate from the FFTir must be presented in addition to the acquisition and holding authorization.
