Sierra: The different projectiles and their characteristics.

Matchking, Gameking, Pro-Hunter... so many different ranges of bullets for long guns and handguns. But what do they correspond to? I tell you everything in this article.

I'll start by introducing you to bullets for long gun caliber:

Gameking: All bullets in this classification are intended for hunting and have a boat tail. Their shapes include the hollow point boat tail (HPBT), the spitzer boat tail (SBT) and the full metal jacket boat tail (FMJBT). Bullets in this classification have a medium to heavy weight in each caliber. Thanks to their boat-tail shape, they have high ballistic coefficients, retain their speed well and resist cross and vertical winds well when flying. These bullets are designed for a combination of penetration and expansion in medium and heavy game for their calibers.

MatchKing : This is Sierra's best target ball rating. The primary motivation for the design of every MatchKing ball is accuracy. These bullets have very thin jackets, drawn to an exact concentricity standard of 0.0003 in maximum variation, and their weight is maintained within ±0.3 grain. All MatchKings have a hollow point with a very small flat for a high ballistic coefficient. The majority of these bullets have a boat tail shape to minimize drag and improve ballistic coefficient. They are manufactured to the highest quality standards. Their accuracy has been praised the world over and they have been used to win more target competitions than all other manufacturers' target balls combined. Although recognized worldwide for their record-breaking accuracy, MatchKing® and Tipped MatchKing® bullets are not recommended for most hunting applications.

Spiked MatchKing Bullets: This classification includes 12 bullets in the following calibers. There are two 22 caliber offerings, one 6mm caliber, two 6.5mm choices, one 7mm offering, and five 30 caliber selections. All but one of the bullets are boattail configuration. As with the MatchKings, they are designed for maximum accuracy. With the addition of acetyl resin tips and warhead dimension changes, the ballistic coefficient is further improved to increase short range performance. Built with the same quality and integrity as the Sierra MatchKing.

BlitzKing Bullets: These bullets are designed for explosive expansion on vermin and small game with the characteristic accuracy of MatchKing bullets. The tips of these bullets are made from a proprietary compound and the jackets are thin to improve accuracy and explosive expansion. The lighter bullets in 20 and 22 calibers are designed to be fired at muzzle velocities of up to 4400 fps. The lightest 6mm BlitzKing bullet can be fired at muzzle velocities of up to 4000 fps.

Varminter: This category of bullets is designed specifically for rapid expansion and instant take down of large vermin and small game. Bullet shapes in this classification include hollow point (HP), flat base spitzer point (SPT), and half point (SMP). Bullets of this classification have thin jackets to promote expansion, but with enough force to be fired at the highest muzzle velocity in the cartridges for which they are intended. Bullets labeled Blitz are designed for medium velocity (less than 3600 fps).

Hornet Bullets: These are 22 caliber bullets from the Varminter family. These bullets have a weight of 40 and 45 grains and are designed in the traditional shape of the 22 Hornet cartridge. They are intended for varmint and small game hunting and are designed to reliably expand at velocities between 2500 and 2800 fps, although they can be loaded into cartridges that generate a muzzle velocity of up to at 3500fps.

Pro-Hunter Bullets: All bullet shapes in this classification are flat-bottomed and include round nose (RN), semi-point (SMP), spitzer point (SPT), flat nose (FN), and hollow point (HP/FN). A few bullets in this category feature Sierra's exclusive Power Jacket to improve bullet expansion into game when fired from medium velocity cartridges. All of these bullets are medium to heavy weight in each caliber and are designed for a combination of penetration and expansion in medium and heavy game for their calibers.

GameChanger Bullets (TGK): These are hunting bullets with the perfect combination of legendary Sierra accuracy paired with deadly penetration. Sierra redesigned their legendary MatchKing bullet into a hollow tip for rapid expansion and gave it a transparent green tip for ballistic uniformity. Inside, the GameChanger features a unique construction that uses a special lead alloy surrounded by a tough copper jacket that provides excellent penetration and expansion at a variety of distances.

Now that you know more about bullets for long guns, let's move on to bullets for handguns.

SportsMaster Bullets: Handgun bullets designed for hunting or personal defense, built for reliable expansion. SportsMaster bullets intended for use in revolvers and tube magazine shotguns have a flute to facilitate roll crimping. Bullets in this classification are available in three different configurations: Jacketed Soft Point (JSP), Jacketed Hollow Point (JHP) and Jacketed Hollow Cavity (JHC).

TournamentMaster Bullets: Competition-style handgun bullets designed for accuracy. TournamentMaster bullets are designed and manufactured for exceptional accuracy and do not expand at typical handgun velocities. Without spline, they are designed for conical crimping. TournamentMaster bullets are available in two configurations: Full Profile Jacket (FPJ) and Full Metal Jacket (FMJ). They are excellent selections for any type of handgun target shooting competition.

Sig V-Crown Balls: Personal defense balls designed for optimal weight retention and expansion.
