Replica of the famous Model 1877 designed by Charles E. Overbaught. Heavy barrel and trigger with Stecher mechanism. metallic layer lacquer, rise on graduated board.
At the end of the 1870s, the NRA regulations stipulating that weapons intended for the Long Range should not exceed a weight of 10 pounds (4,540 Kg.), the Sharps Rifle Company received a number of letters from shooters practicing this discipline, and complaining that the weight of the casing forced the use of barrels that were too light, generating problems of vibration and recoil that were detrimental to precision.
The solution will be provided by Charles E. Overbaught (the sales manager at Sharps), who will redesign the case and the plate in order to reduce the weight, thus allowing the use of barrels of a greater diameter. This is how the Model 1877 will be created.
