Invented in 1955 by Marcel Opinel, the Virobloc safety ring is fitted to all closing knives from No. 06 onwards. Cut from stainless steel, the Virobloc is made up of two parts: a fixed part and a sliding part. In addition to locking the blade in the open position (safety of use), it is now possible to lock the blade in the closed position (safety of transport).
The tapered 15 padauk is equipped with a 15 cm poliglace blade with a more rounded tip , a Virobloc safety ferrule stamped with the new logo locking the blade in the open and closed position, and a padauk handle resistant. Padauk is a unique wood that has a color varying from purple brown to pinkish with purple veins.
Hardness 55-57 HRC. Origin Europe.
The stainless steel of OPINEL blades is an optimized grade to guarantee both high resistance to corrosion and high mechanical performance.
The 15 cm blade offers excellent sharpness and high resistance to abrasion (wear) which allows it to withstand regular contact with hard materials, such as ceramic, before requiring resharpening. Stainless steel has the advantage of requiring no special maintenance under ordinary use conditions, unlike carbon steel. However, it may encounter its limits when placed in prolonged contact with an aggressive environment (acid, salt water, detergent, etc.). It has a polished finish with double polishing to obtain a mirror effect.
The handle is formed from Padauk, a dense, fine-grained African wood that ranges in color from purple-brown to pinkish with purple veins.
